Funnily enough, I was listening to a CD of ZTT remixes just this afternoon (yes I know, I'm up with all the latest technological trends!) which contains the Art Of Noise version of Spies Like Us. The accompanying booklet suggests McCartney himself was present at Sarm Studios back in 85 for that particular remix. although that may be just wishful thinking. One of my favourite meetings of rock and dance from the period under consideration is the powerful Paul Oakenfold Perfecto remix of Deacon's Blue's Your Town from 1992. I hope the band liked it as transactions between the rock/pop and dance scenes didn't always go smoothly. When Phil Harding remixed Wet Wet Wet's Sweet Little Mystery for PWL in 1987 before the band was famous, his version was shelved. Twenty four years later in 2011 Cherry Red compiled a collection of Harding's 80s Club Mixes and the band still refused to let us hear the PWL remix! I've just had a quick rummage on Youtube and it doesn't seem to be available even today! Pure snobbery.

hahaha.. haven't you heard Paul ? Cd's are making a come-back. In most territories sales are flat or going up again. Anyway as to your remark. I have the cd somewhere in the collection and I remember reading that also in the booklet. I have reasons to think it'll be true. Anne Dudley, one of the two Art Of Noise members is one of the musicians on Paul's Press To Play album of 1986, so the connection is clearly there. And I agree on the Paul Oakenfold remix of "Your Town" Absolutely love that one. It's on the list so it'll be a proper episode. Wet Wet Wet is not available on Discogs either. It's even not referenced so it has indeed never seen the day of light. Thanks for reading & reacting; Enjoy your weekend !

"No More Lonely Nights" is one of my favorite Paul McCartney songs. I never knew there was a dance mix! It is very strange sounding. I'd imagine it is a re-recording as opposed to a mix. Either way, this version takes away from the beauty of the melody, vocal performance, and emotion of the original. Do you know if this one got any traction in clubs?

I agree. And what's more, so does Arthur Baker, the remixer 😃. I think the key to understand this peculiar remix is the year it was released : 1984. It was the year suddenly all pop & rock artists needed to have a dance remix of their current single(s). I did not get any traction in the clubs. It never charted in the US dance charts, nor in any European ones. Thanks for reading & reacting Dan. Enjoy your weekend !
