Well done. Prince is my favorite topic and I appreciated how thorough this article was in explaining his complex relationships, especially with Lisa & Wendy. It should be noted that Prince did reconcile with the pair and began performing with them again later in his career. Always unpredictable.

Thanks for the great compliment Jami. The strange thing is that I got the impression during my research that they never stopped talking to each other, even when the frustration was running high on the part of Wendy & Lisa. In every interview I read, they always talked affectionate about him. Prince is complicated. I've got many more of his songs and his productions on my list for the coming episodes. All stories that will probably add a layer to the phenomenon that is Prince.

This was great. Lots of details I didn't know about. I love Prince's music. He rightfully deserves his place in music history because of his talent and influence. I had heard some of these stories regarding royalties and his beliefs. I'm sure he was an absolute pain to work with. One of those stars and individuals who are too talented as well as too clever for their own good. Having said that, this doesn't affect my appreciation of his music.

Thanks for the compliments Andres. Me neither. I'm an absolute fan. Certainly of his 80's repertoire.

Really! That’s a pretty cool first[ish] release. Seeing him play at the Palace with my husband, then boyfriend, is a highlight of my concert career. In fact, I knew my husband was marriage material when we simultaneously stated “Prince!” when asked who the most underrated guitarist was. Our house was in mourning for quite a while after he died. We were gutted. Here is the link to Susan’s episode Part 1. Incredible lady and her stories of working with him are great.

Thx for writing about Wendy & Lisa. They served as role models for teens like myself when Purple Rain cane out. In the movie, Prince sheds his ego on stage and plays their tune with a knowing nod. A nod that said “you deserve this.” It was a moment for all women who wanted to work in the music industry.

Note: according to my chat with Prince’s staff audio engineer Susan Rogers, Prince loved working with women on stage and behind the scenes. Look at how many female acts he launched and inspired. It’s a testament to his bisexual work ethic. The podcast link is on my page if you’d like to listen.

I was not aware of the royalties controversy (see how I did that?). He was complicated. So generous in some ways and so guarded in others.

Thanks for your comment Thea. From researching Prince & Wendy & Lisa I got the impression that they did not really have a fall-out. They remained friends up until the end. As I will feature other Prince productions in future episodes I'm sure I will encounter the same sort of reactions. He is a complicated artist, but one of the biggest we had. I adore most of his work, certainly the eighties releases. In fact, I did catalogue at Warner and one of my first releases was a Best Of of Prince. It was my first encounter with the complicated relationship of rec. cie and artist an his point of view.

The first self titled album by Wendy and Lisa on Virgin is an extraordinary refreshing distillation of female energy that I still listen to on a regular basis. The UK album cover with photography by Shelia Rock is a rather more obvious nod to their relationship than the awkwardly posed US equivalent
