This was excellent! I never knew of Jagger’s solo work so hadn’t heard the original or the remix, which I thoroughly enjoyed, along with the comprehensive and engaging history and details behind the creation of the remix.

Such a great read. I was unfamiliar with Mick's foray into dance/dance-ish territory. It was also very interesting to read about what was happening at the time. Thanks for always contextualising so well!

I also really liked Jagger's 1993 solo album, "Wandering Spirit." That title alone suggests that he was allowing himself to experiment with what he wanted to express.

Also, I'm a big B-52s fan. Looking forward to that post!

I'm not a big Stones or Jagger fan so I only know his first solo record a bit. Thanks for reading & reacting Dan ! Have a great weekend !

From a contemporary UK perspective, the 1980s tends to be split into two halves: the experimental early 80s referred to in your post and the post Live Aid era where the big corporations firmly reasserted their control after a period of uncertainty and recession. The return of rich rock stars being handed solo deals definitely belongs to the corporate part of the decade and from the pov of someone who came of age in the post-punk, post-disco era, I can still recall how depressing it felt at the time when the rock dinosaurs made their return. However, I have a sense that this period is ripe for reappraisal and as always it was interesting to read the story behind the track even if personally I will be more than happy to never hear Just Another Night in either its original or remix versions again! To end on a more positive note, I was delighted to read you'll be returning to the B52s in a future post. They were usually marketed to the mainstream as a wild and wacky gimmick act, but actually provided a powerful and moving voice for LGBTQIA+ concerns during a time of great repression. There's a 1980 concert from the Capitol Theatre NJ on Youtube which makes it clear in its intensity that there's more at stake here than just having fun.

😁 Well I picked "Just Another Night" because of the stellar work of François K and the fact that it has a somewhat unusual creation process. I've been visiting the Stones & Mick jagger twice now in the series. They will move to the far end of the back burner for now 😃. Lots of other artists on my list for the coming weeks & months. The B 52's for instance although I haven't really made a choice which track I'll tackle first. I'm such a big fan that every track deserves attention 🤓. And you are right, their importance outstretches the "commercial" success they had at the time. Thanks for reading & reacting Paul and enjoy your weekend !
