In the U.K., Self Control broke out of the gay scene to become a Top 5 mainstream hit. I prefer the more "sophisticated" Branigan version although I do have a soft spot for the Ricky Martin cover. Fantastic mix this week btw - Martin Rushent dubbing it up like only he can for Pete Shelley, plus classics from Savage, Sandy Morton and Sandra and great tracks previously unknown to me by Dario Dell'Aere, Decadance and G.J. Lunghi. Any chance of a future newsletter on Sandra Ann Lauer, one of my favourite Euro artists despite meaning zilch here in the U.K. (sometimes we get things very wrong!)

The Decadance is one of the best Italo tracks. Never get tired of that one. It was fun making this mix and writing together with Angelica & Beppe. And yes Sandra's on the list Paul. But I don't know yet which one of her fantastic tracks I'll do first. Thanks for reading & reacting and enjoy the weekend !

I LOVED this song in 1984! It even made my personal Top Ten that year. I knew Branigan had done a number of remakes which really helped her career in the U.S. since most of us didn't know the originals. At the time "Self-Control" and "Gloria" seemed like HER songs. In a way they are but it's interesting to hear those original versions.

It's still a great song. And one of the best intro's ever 😁 I prefer her version over the Raff version but listen to Gloria's original from Umberto Tozzi. That one is much better. Thanks for reading & reacting Dan. Have a great weekend !
